Title: PCI Photo ID (Trusted Member Card) Procedure. (TEMPORARILY NOT AVAILABLE)
Post by: LightWave on February 13, 2014, 03:25:37 AM
(TEMPORARILY NOT AVAILABLE)

WORD FILE ATTACHED TO POST AT BOTTOM

The final card decided is a credit card size photo ID card which will be issued to verified members. You can obtain this ID without having to reveal personal details to the members of PCI. For example if you have an ID say "HotPixel" and want to be a trusted member, you can follow the steps outlined below and get the card. Your Forum Level will show "Trusted Member" but this does not imply that some additional personal details will get revealed to the community. Only that you are personally identified to the administrators and moderators.
Within the community this will be useful as one is more likely to communicate and enter into a deal with a trusted member.
The requirements laid down are as follows:
PCI Trusted Member ID Application:

Any registered member can apply for this card by following these steps:

1. Submit a scanned copy of a photo ID  (You can photograph the document and mail it in).*

2. Submit a scanned soft copy of proof of residence  (You can photograph the document and mail it in).**

3. Provide 2 other member names who can provide a reference for you. ***

*Photo ID: This can be any currently valid ID that has a photograph of you along with your name. Eg: Driving license, PAN Card, Employee ID Card, Photo Credit Card (please keep digits of credit card covered in case you are using that). Driving card, Employee ID card, election card or Aadhar card should be easy to share.

**Proof of Residence: This needs to contain your name as well as your residence address in full. Eg: Rental agreement, bank statement, card statement, telephone bill etc

*** Two References: These two members will need to attest to the following:

a) That they know you personally and have met with you physically (not virtually).

b) That the user id on the forum and the photo ID being submitted do indeed match to the same person.

If there is a problem getting two members who have physically met you, for example you live in a city where there are not many PCI members, you can PM one of us and explain the special situation and we will work a way to link the real ID to the forum ID.
All documents to be mailed in with all details to photographyclubofindia@gmail.com and send a PM to either Ayaz, VikramF or to me saying that you have mailed documents from so-an-so email address.

The cost of getting card printed and couriered to you has been worked out to Rs150/- per member. At a time minimum order which can be placed is 8 cards so as soon as queue of 8 applications is ready, all 8 will receive details of bank account where the money is to be sent. Order will be sent for printing as soon as all 8 applicants money has been received.

Please feel free to post any queries. Do not post your applications or personal details in reply to this thread. Communicate via email+pm for that purpose.
Thanking you and looking for this to be a big success.

Detailed Process:

Step 1: Speak with 2 references and get their agreement (remember that their membership and reputation is at stake here too).

Step 2: Submit scanned copies of Photo ID and Residence Proof along with two reference names to photographyclubofindia@gmail.com

Step 3: Moderators will verify details ? this might take up to 2 weeks depending on speed of replies from references

Step 4: Moderators will send you an email with either acceptance or rejection of application. The decision towards acceptance or rejection is final and not open to discussion. A rejected member may reapply after 1 month.

Step 5: In case of acceptance, you?ll need to make payment towards the card online. Details will be sent by email from which the application was received.

Step 6: Once payment is made, the card will be put into production and will be dispatched to the address you provided in your proof of residence.

Submitting referee names: Please submit ONLY two. More than that and the application stops right there. These two referees will be taken to task if your id should ever prove to be false (even expulsion).

Please also provide both your user id and your full name in the application as they're not always the same.

The applications received have some errors ... one has no references and others have more than 2. So which 2 should we pick. To make things easier ..... I have attached a Word File to the original Post. Please use this. If you have already sent in your documents, no need to resend those .... but please send the applications in prescribed format.

Thanks.

Thanks Bhooshan. I should take the opportunity to state that this would not have been possible without the support of Vikram and Ayaz. A lot of communication via email and pm was needed to reach till this stage. Even now we have a corroboration setup to streamline the process. I'll surely visit Bangalore once to have a drink with Vikram. Ayaz is a teetotaller. So we just have an occasional tea or breakfast together.

PS: Sent in my application.

Superb idea and would looking for this prized possession!
But yes for me too this is the case like above.
Have met a few jjmpf members but they are not here. Please suggest. Reference is the key issue.

I am from Bangalore. Please address this concern friends.

I think it is easier to ask pre-existing friends to join PCI than to ask pre-existing PCI members to meet you physically and give reference. Not really difficult if you think of alternative arrangements. :)

Well why dont you just ask your jjmpf friends to join and then give their references? We dont look at PCI as a community thats competing with jjmpf and we dont have any grudges or anything against jjmpf and its members...the more the merrier and there's more than enough room for everyone to happily co-exist.

I would like to mention that there is one slight problem... If you manage to register some one to help you in your reference check then that person needs to be active on PCI Forum in order to respond to the confirmation message from Vikram.

Currently i am facing that problem since one of my reference (Amitabha) is not active (in terms of posting) on the forum. He has sent an email confirmation but i do not know if that will be applicable.
Title: Re: PCI Photo ID (Trusted Member Card) Procedure.
Post by: LightWave on February 24, 2014, 01:01:59 PM
Active? It only needs 5 posts to be able to reply to a PM.
Without a card, there is no negative impact on any forum member. They user experience is the same. All the rights and restrictions are same. The card is an addon for which some guidelines have been laid out for specific reasons. I think we must respect them.

This is already implemented. Final design has QR code .... the application form asks for data to embed in QR.

Hi,

Firstly, I'm so, so sorry for not doing this on time. I had travel plans and had started this with the expectation that I'd get all applications in and references done before I left, but that didn't happen. I went away for about 10 days and have been swamped with work ever since I got back.

Anyway - the first batch of cards is ready for the following.
Doc will contact you regarding payment details - once, that payment is done - the cards will be dispatched.

These are the first batch. There are a lot of applications where we're still waiting for the referees to revert. Second reminders have been sent.

in addition I got an email from hdfc bank about some money transfer. But I don't have account with HDFC bank. So how could they know my email address of ICICI Bank account. Someone enlighten me.

Honest answer - I don't know as of now... I'll check and get back to u with an update.

For batch 1 there appear to be some printing design delays... Thats what Vikram told me. Its the first time its being printed so need to tweak somethings.

For batch 2 we'll put up an update by saturday.

I'm also waiting for my card :-(

Going forward we'll put up a clear timeline for the entire process.. The printing has had its share of niggles and issues due to this being the first time we tried it and we don't want a sub standard output.

that sounds good .. hope to stay connected with some exiting features like photo feature contest of the month, oldies vs. new photography, some workshops by forum members for the other members, party every month to stay close to each other, some member only reply rapidly without posting their photography and move ahead as far as status of member is concerned ( this looks funny! ) etc.

Not only will you make friends but will also learn photography or share your photography knowledge with us (since I don't know your current level of expertise). Let's all share and grow.

Thanks Somnath. Personally I must apologise for the delay .... consider it as teething troubles .... whatever happened happened for good. I learnt a lot from some bad experiences. But even though it was small sum of only Rs 150, the load on my mind was too much and it had to be completed. Will send some office staff to have them mailed out.

I had applied for PCI ID Card twice .. PCI reference clause is extremely contradictory as most people out of jealousy don't wish to give a (+) ve reference to the other applicant even after knowing him/her well and you are asking two such reference from the competitors front! No wonder, i am still waiting to get my PCI Card after 3 months of becoming member .. Does it encourage us as a member? Or, sooner or later one will quit the group after acquiring (-) Karma and no membership card? How many members will remain active in this group finally then .. A Question to all? :dislike:
Title: Re: PCI Photo ID (Trusted Member Card) Procedure.
Post by: theqca on May 02, 2014, 12:21:01 PM
One of the ideas behind the card is that we have members who are "trusted" and vouched for by 2 other members. This would help in case someone wishes to buy or sell expensive equipment... A "known" member may inspire more confidence than an "unknown" member. There is no additional benefit that a member with an ID card has over another and all members continue to have use of the same forum facilities

The members who've got cards are the ones who had applied earlier. Verification was done. Cards were then printed for batch 1.

The second batch hasn't yet been processed. The process of verification and printing will happen for batch 2 only after batch 1 is completed.

You are very much a part of the forum so please don't feel that there is any bias from our end :-)

Prasenjit, the card is not the raison d'etre of this forum. It is learning and sharing. 1st batch of cards has finally been received by all members who applied much earlier than you. Please be patient. 2nd batch results to be announced soon. A lot of behind the scenes work is there to manage a forum like this. The problem of negative Karma is being looked at too. Look at your Karma total now. See anything different?

The card is not essential to participate here and share knowledge. It eventually comes as matter of time. No special privileges to card holders.

I want to be a Trusted Member .... and i am Planning to Take PHOTO ID .. as well

Option 1 = Get to know 2 existing PCI members face to face and apply for PCI card. Remember to give their names as reference

Option 2 = Get 2 of your friends (preferably who are interested in photography) to join PCI and then give their name as reference.

We have enough applications now to process the second round of cards. The process of sending PMs to the 2 members you sent as references has started. Please keep them informed and let them reply in order to enable a quick progress of the card application queue.
Thanks to all who have applied.

Reference norms in kolkata seems to be bit difficult to pass as some valued members of PCI loves refusing their known circle members like  as i referred members like Somnath Goswami, Subhadip Mukherjee, Binoy Bhushan in two different times as some of them believe referring a trustworthy person in photography may damage their image as a honoured PCI  ID Card holder ( See the PCI Meet in two different places of Kolkata ) .. so PCI ID Card is a myth for me, Huh? twice i had referred two persons who knows me yet they refused to address on the reference .. what to do now? keep on pleading to new people in the event of every refusal or leave it for ever .. such a bad experience for a simple reason! I don't understand why Subhadip Mukherjee invited me to join PCI forum in feb, may be he wanted to insult me in all possible ways but i didn't do harm to anyone! Sorry to say but its true.  :dislike:

Prasenjit, I for one would never provide a reference (for any purpose), based on meeting a person a few times. I'd give a reference only if I got to know the person and that takes time and a lot of interaction so that I become comfortable with their character and feel confident in my reference meaning something..

I've met a lot of people from PCI, but that doesn't mean I know them well enough to provide a reference on their character. I'd feel extremely uncomfortable if a casual acquaintance asked for a reference. Perhaps this might also be true for others?

@VikramF: Subhadip Mukherjee and me worked in Oxford together .. i think its enough to know a person whom he referred to join PCI forum and refused to refer for a PCI Card! funny isn't it .. may be i should delete my account and contributions to avoid further humiliations! you can't imagine my feelings .. some global gyan may not help me. The whole idea of bringing me in PCI forum by Subhadip Mukherjee in the lure of PCI Membership Card mainly! I hope i am communicating to you? thank you.

Prasenjit - I second what Vikram says... Its purely a personal matter. If someone wants to or doesn't want to vouch for a person its between them and that particular person... Its not for us to question people on personal decisions they choose to make.

Example - I personally wouldn't want to vouch for some people I've met in real life even though I continue to meet and shoot with them and I don't have to justify my actions to anyone as its a personal choice that I have made.

Dear Prasenjit,

Life is more than just references !

Its one integrity and what they actually stand for in Life that actually counts.
Do you mean the Photographers who don't have PCI ID card in India are not trusted or having
any good reputation ? LOL ,  Just Look at the brighter side of this, You may get or not get a PCI ID Card but you will still remain a friend to us at PCI. Just stop giving any importance to the ID Card. If the Card comes on the way that is good. This ID Card will not help you or any one of us to become a better photographer but the continuous use of becoming a member of PCI will surely help you and me through our Learning Process of Photography.

I have had a PRESS ID Card past many many years frankly i have never used it even once :P

Hoping to see your Continuous posts here which are more meaningful to me and others.

Thanking you

Anil George

I work with over 500 people. Most of them for well over 4-5 years. I still wouldn't provide a reference for 99.99% of them.

Since you're in some doubt of whether you're able to communicate with me clearly, let ME communicate clearly and dispel any thoughts that I'm airing 'global gyan':
1. Your actions on this post will DEFINITELY not get you the references you seek. Airing personal differences on a public fora will usually backfire (and pretty violently at that).
2. Your actions on the forum however, will either show your integrity and character OR the lack of either .... and that is something that is within your control.
2. The feeling of "humiliation" and not fitting in is something that is in your mind only and your choice. 99.99% of the folk here don't know you're feeling humiliated at all. Frankly 90% of them won't care that you don't have a PCI card. You first felt humiliated with the claps and punches .... now with the PCI card ..... come on dude - pick yourself up and focus on things that really matter!!

The lull has been due to very less number of applications. And some members not confirming their residential address needed for trusted member status.
OK Here goes. Have the print files ready. Need minimum 8 people ready and willing to get the cards. Including shipping only Rs 200/- per head is needed. List of approved people is:

saiki
Gautam
sooraj1808
Amlan Sanyal
PixelHunter
Apacheebest
WildCat (Pawan Maheja)
drgap
Digital_Reality
HyperDrive

Need Address confirmpation from sujoypp

If 8 of the above send me PM saying they want to proceed, I'll send in the print order.

Thanks.

PMs sent to 10 members. Please transfer the sum as per the details. Please do not delay at this stage as it might lead to delays for some of you who send in the money promptly. The amount is only Rs 200 per person which is not much considering the costs and organisational difficulties so do not delay please.

Dear Admins/ Mods,

Six months have been passed since the last ID Cards were printed back in Dec 2014. How many new applications have been received in this past 6 months ?
What is the status of these applications received ? When is the cut off date for the New Batch of applications ? Our PCI Membership is Growing, Let us all join hands to increase our trusted members too. Please share these informations for all members.

Thanking you
