Hall of Fame !!!!
« on: February 25, 2014, 09:53:41 PM »
Displayed here is where the best of the best of the best, the numero unos. the prima donnas (in the rare occassion a woman actually joins PCI AND wins a contest AND is a singer. :P), peoples whose names are spoken in the same breath as Ansel Adams, HCB, Annie Liebovitz, Steve McCurry, Ken Rockwell as well as those who just got lucky with a shot. :p

They are our contest winners, chosen by their peers, battling it out with fellow photographers and emerging victorious !

So without further ado I give you our contest winners along with their babies err I mean winning photos !!! :D

January 2014 contest winner

This was PCI's first contest. The topic was 'Festivals'. A total of 6 entries were received.

http://photographyclubofindia.com/boards/index.php?topic=244.0

It was a tough subject to shoot as the time frame for when photos could have been clicked was barely a few months.

The winner with 18 votes was G2 ! A big congrats to him. :D

His winning entry -

A little about G2 (Jeetu)-

G2 is a good friend of mine for years now and he has recently moved to Sydney, Australia from Mumbai.

February 2014 contest winner

This was PCI's second contest. The topic was 'Flowers'. A total of 26 entries were received.

Feb contest images

Like the previous contest, there was a limit on when the photos could have been clicked increasing the difficulty of the contest. However we still received some fantastic images.

2 votes were all that stood between the top 5 photos showing the level of quality entries received. In fact there was a tie for the winner !

However the mentors deliberated among themselves and even they had a split vote in deciding who was the winner but by 2-1 vote, the winner was Subhadip !!! ! A big congrats to him. :D

His winning entry -

A little about Subhadip

Subhadip Mukherjee is from Kolkata where so many other great photographers hail from ! He works in the retail industry working on mainly Retail ERP and web. He still manages to find time to go on photography trips which is quite an achievement in today's day and age. :)

This is what Subhadip had to say on his photo - "First and foremost i would like to thank that Bee (Madhu) for holding that pose for nearly 1 minute till i figured out how i could possible compose that shot. Then i would like to thank my family my wife and daughter for not coming to the flower show on time so that i had enough time on my own to take as many shots that i could......

We learn every day... and this was also a learning experience for me. I had never submitted to any photo forum contests earlier, its just from PCI i have started.... What you photograph is your creation and make that count. You dont have to re produce that same what others see but what you want others to see this make the photograph your creation... Thanks.... will forever cherish this.  :)"

Feb 2014 Contest Runners up

The runners up for the Feb 2014 contest was actually a joint winner along with Subhadip ! Unfortunately the rules were such that there could only be one winner though that didn't take away anything from his fantastic image. So without further adieu, the runner up of the Feb 2014 contest is Pushpinder!!!

His entry for the contest -

A little about Pushpinder

Pushpinder is a practicing paediatrician in Delhi. He also had a short stint in the Army Med Corps some time back !

He has been present on photography forums for many years now and was there on JJM almost a decade ago ! He has had many interactions with illustrious members like Ram Pai (Image), Ayaz, Henry etc (But not me !!! How mean !!!  :'( )

Wish him all the best in future contests !!! :)

March 2014 Contest Winner !!!!

This was a unique contest as the winner was decided by a panel of mentors rather than a members vote like in the past.

The challenge was Holi. Holi is generally a difficult subject to shoot as it can be dangerous to your camera. However one photo stood out as it captured action and was very different compared to the mainly portrait photos featured in the contest.

The mentors were unanimous in declaring that the winner was none other than Rakesh J.V. !!!

A hearty congratulations to him and we hope his camera was not harmed in the making of the photo. :D

His winning entry

A little about Rakesh -

Rakesh is from Chennai and works in an MNC over there. Though he has been interested in cameras and photography since a young age,  he started photography seriously about 4 years back when he could first afford a DSLR by himself. Since then, there has been no looking back. The love never refuses to fade off.  Though primarily a street portrait photographer, he is interested in other genres of photography such as fashion and landscapes. Street photography for him was like an alter ego. He used to be an introvert in his younger days. Communicating with random people on the street helped him come out of my shell. He realized that people all over, in spite of societal differences, required the same basic things. To him, this was an eye opener.

Even after taking so many amazing photos he still quips - "I continue to learn every day :)"

Here are few interviews of his that were published on some websites:

April 2014 Contest Winner !!!!

The theme for the contest was Landscapes. Like earlier the members decided the winner of the contest.

A total of 21 entries were received. Since there was no restriction on capture date and type of processing used the level of the photos was very high.

During the voting process there was a time when 5 photos were joint first !!!

However once the votes were in, noted street photographer - Amlan Sanyal was the clear winner of the landscape contest !!!! :D

I guess he can take good photos regardless of genre. :P

His winning entry

A little about Amlan

A teacher by profession and a passionate street photographer, he is a resident of Siliguri town of Darjeeling district.

His interest in photography developed in 2009 when he bought his first DSLR and started taking pictures of strangers on the streets.  When he started doing this, he had no idea there was an entire genre devoted to it.  A self-taught photographer, he honed his skills through the images of famous photographers in the street photography genre. He strongly believes that the viewer should be able to connect with the subject in his/her photographs. Taking photographs gives the photographer the power to stop time, appreciate the truth of a moment and question himself !

He mainly shoots with short focal length to get close to his subjects and to give his images an intimate feel. He loves capturing people in their natural behavior and surroundings. He carefully watches the scene and tries to stick around for a while. Sometimes it?s anticipation, and sometimes it?s sheer luck !!!

Some of his memorable achievements was winning the POTM in Fotoflock, few images getting published  in National Geographic Daily Dozens, showcase in Smart Photography magazine, TheDPhoto inspiration & articles and few acceptances in international digital salon.

He says "I must thank all my friends of  PCI and JJMPF forum who have always extended their helping hands and have always supported me."

May 2014 Contest Winner !

The theme for the contest was Hands.

A total of 12 entries were received. The competition was pretty stiff with barely a few votes separating the top 5. If one or two more people voted we could have easily had a different winner ! :P

However when the voting session was closed there was only one winner - Manvee ! :D

His winning entry

A little bit about Manvee -

An excerpt from his own words - "" A maharashtrian, but born and brought up in a place called Gajendragarh (in then Dharwar district) of Karnataka state. A textile Engineer by profession, currently in a mode of changing the job, hence like a NOMAD. Had worked in African countries like Nigeria and Uganda. My dream of clicking photographs hatched way back in my childhood, but due to financial hiccups, never dare to adopt. Have started my journey with CLICK-III 24 mm format camera, then Yashica Bravo PnS, Nikon Coolpix, Canon Rebel Xsi and now with Canon 60D. No fixed genre as such, however micros and street are my favorites.

I also have a hobby of doing painting in Oil media, written many cartoons in leading Kannada Magazines like Sudha, Taranga, Mayura etc, before i migrated back to Maharashtra. Non availability of Kannada mags and giving up the reading habit, forced me to stop this hobby.(Or that could be the excuse..!), trekking and driving my swiftly are my other favorites..."
