Ramstrong -  Is it possible to post 100% crop of the above files?  I don't think it is correct to compare sharpness of images at this size :)

Ayaz.. Nicely written review.. My only issue with this lens is that i don't find my 501.8D give noticeably sharper results than my 18-55.. Hence it is good only for the 1.8 sake.. Else the 18-55 works equally well... plus has the advantage of zoom :D

Sandeep, personally speaking, I love to use primes...When I started using slr system, a minolta srt super, my dad didn't let me touch anything other than the 50mm 1.4....And I am still comfortable with that field of view only...I was gifted with a minolta maxxum 7000 and it had a 35-105 lens, and could not use my primes with this system (In th AF body, minolta manual lenses could not be used), so I again started using the manual body (obviously I didn't had the money to buy a 50mm 1.7 prime for the electronic body)...After all these years, I shifted to a dslr, a nikon d5000, and still I miss the prime....There is always so much you can do with it...You have so good low light function, and so shallow DOF at the open aperture...
