Actually, that would be the worst mistake you could make - to shoot RAW "so that you can adjust exposure etc later".
Shoot RAW to enhance tones later NOT to cover up mistakes in exposure (which is what 90% of folk do, resulting in a pic that is so heavily processed that it looks ok only in small size on a screen. You still need to expose properly while shooting RAW to get the maximum possible out of a shot.

In this particular pic, if you'd used spot metering on her face, you'd have got her face properly exposed but the background would be completely blown out.
And as you can see from your pic, if you try to retain the background, you'll get a severely underexposed face as you have here.

This is quite a tricky shot without adequate light on her face. I'd have shot RAW (which would give me upto about 3 stops of recovery), while retaining the background (so matrix metering) and only then used the power of the RAW file to pull up some detail on her face.

VikramF you lecture so well. Nice thoughts on RAW. I feel RAW is essential for WB setting as bare minimum PP.
