Which DSLR to buy?
« on: September 09, 2015, 09:12:34 PM »
Hi

I have to gift a DSLR to my friend - he is a newbie with DSLR.

Which one should I buy - Nikon or Cannon and which model?

I own a Nikon 3200 with 18-55 lens - guess this is outdated hence thought seeking advice from the experts.

Please suggest.

Regards

Brand hardly matters. Both Nikon and Canon have an excellent line up for all budgets. The only models I don't recommend are the 2 Base Nikon models. The 3xxx and 5xxx series.

I would recommend Canon 1200D it is a good startup camera plus you get an option for dual lense 18-55 and 55-250 which would suffice most of your friends needs. Nikons are also good and you can go with the 5200 or 5300 they are also good for startup.

Canon offer touch-screen making the over all user expeience more intuitive. Also the canon offers good stm lenses for video needs.
where as the recent budget nikons have higher dynamic range and no low pass filter...but i feel all these are irrelevant for a newbee.
Go for canon 700d,which has wifi so easy remote control using smartphone and touchscreen. :) ;)
