How to upload images via Flickr
« on: January 03, 2014, 08:14:05 PM »
In our previous forum , there was a lot of confusion among the new-comers about how to embed images via Flickr or any such image sharing sites. Last time Toofan aka Vimal wrote a detailed post explaining how to do so using flickr. Since we are just starting out, thought about writing a few lines explaining how to share images using the new flickr. Hope this helps.

First you need to go to your photostream. In new Flickr, it should look something like this-

Select the image you want to share. Then follow the on screen instructions  ;D

Select the appropriate size and simply paste the code in forum where we type the text. Bingo!! Your image will be embedded in your post. To give some idea regarding the various sizes and how they will appear in the forum, I am embedding one of my images in all the sizes that flickr allows. Hope this helps..  :)

(75X75, Square )

(150X150, Square)

(100X66, Thumbnail)

(240X159, Small)

(320X212, Small)

(500X331, Medium)

(640X424, Medium)

(800X530, Medium)

(1024X768, Large)

(1800X1192, Original)

In this case the original size was 1800X1192 pixels. If the images that you upload are of larger size, then there will be some more options. But as you can see from the above examples, the best size to share images in forums like this is 640X424 or if you want to show large size images with lots of details, then at best 800X530. Anything larger than this, and the picture will be so big that you need to scroll to see the whole picture. Hope this helps..  :)

PS- There may be some who don't have or don't want to use flickr or similar services. Or sometimes we may like to upload some photos that we have posted in some other website (like FB). In those cases, we may use the "Insert Image" option given in the forum. First right click on the image you would like to share and select the option "Copy Image URL" [Note that wordings for the option differs from one browser to another. The text I said is applicable for Chrome, but the wordings may be slightly different for other browsers]. Then click on the "Insert Image" button (The one below the "Bold" button) in the forum text box.
This code should appear-

Paste the image url that you copied between them. Your image will be embedded to your post. However, if you use this method , you won't be able to change the size of the image.

Update:- Flickr has changed its layout once again and in the process, has made the process more complicated. Hence this update to make things a little easier for starters.

When you open an image in flickr, you are presented with this screen-

Now follow the onscreen instructions-

Like before, you just need to paste the code in the text box in forum and your image will be embedded. :)

Binoy, what a coincidence. I was planning on doing the same.  :D Thanks anyway. It will certainly help many.

Not nitpicking, but it would have been more appropriate if this was posted in the "Members Tips and Tutorials" board.
