Forum Designations - What they mean / signify
« on: March 20, 2014, 11:18:43 AM »
I think it would be a good idea to give an update here on what the forum designations mean / signify since there have been some changes in the recent past.

We can keep updating this thread in case of changes.

Winner - This is a rotating badge that keeps being past on to each Winner of a PCI contest. Something like a rolling trophy

Mentor - an honorary badge given to people who posses a vast amount of photographic knowledge & experience, have photos which are proof of their skill level, are willing to share with others and are willing to act as "guides" or "mentors" to forum members.
Current PCI Mentors - VikramF, dranand, naturecloseups

Trusted - this badge means that the member has identified himself (real name and address) to the forum moderators and is "trusted" by 2 forum members who he has met in real life and who vouch for him being the person he claims to be. This particular member also is the holder of a PCI identity card.

Admin - website / forum administrator. Someone who has the thankless task of modifying / updating technical stuff at the back-end. The forum admin may also double up as a Moderator.
Current Forum Admins - Lightwave

Sr Mod - Forum moderators who have access to amend, delete posts/ users etc. Think of them as referees in a football match. The badge says "Sr Mod" because as the forum expands and grows we may want to have moderators for various sections of the forum.
Current Active Moderators - Hankosaurus, Brendon, Lightwave, Ayaz

Dealer - badge given to "verified" sellers of photography equipment. Verified in this case would mean the person is a dealer with an address / contact number and has identified himself as a dealer to the forum. PCI does not in any way endorse or vouch for any dealer or their product. This is merely a facility or service being offered to members where they can contact dealers who may given them discounts for certain photography related products or services.

There are other designations that are based on the number of posts made by an individual...

Maybe Lightwave can post the list here...

This is the level of other IDs as per post count. I feel highest level is only 500 posts and easily reached.
Let's have suggestions to change these a bit.

well I've personally never understood why forums have titles based on the number of posts..i think thats something that comes as default with SMF?

The current titles me thinks are better than the ones we had earlier which were misleading like "professor" etc...

The only one from the list you've got Doc which i dont like is "rookie" as someone may interpret that as meaning the member is a noob to photography...

I'm still a rookie, so I need to post a few "awesome" and "+1"s or anything useless and change my status.  ;D

EDIT : ^^ This post itself is just to increase my post count as I'm adding no value with this post and I'm ashamed of it :(

Actually the meaning of Rookie is not a novice the way we understand. If we go by the meaning, its a new recruit. The Rookie in the forum probably means that. I was also a rookie in PCI. Its our forum and lets enjoy the company of our friends here. I am enjoying my time here even at this age. Lets not consider any post useless unless its a deliberately posted garbage.

Absolutely right Prabir. That's how you have rookies win F1 grand prix wins too. Plus it saves me the trouble of making a new graphic ;)
We can change post count needed to rise in each level easily.
